4. Check variety - registered varieties or local varieties
5. Spacing - 1.5 ft x 4-6 inches
6. Design - RCB design, replication 4-6 (depend on no of variety)
7. Rate of fertilizer - Urea - 28 lb/ac
  T-super - 84 lb/ac
  Potash - 56 lb/ac
  Gypsum - 112 lb/ac
8. Care and management - Thinning one plant 2 weeks after sowing

9. Data record

  1. Planting date
  2. 50 % germination (day)
  3. 50 % flowering day
  4. Flower color
  5. Ripening day
  6. Plant height
  7. No of branch per plant
  8. No of pod per plant
  9. Pod color
  10. Pod length (cm)
  11. No of seed per pod
  12. 100 seed weight (g)
  13. Seed color
  14. Seed shape
  15. Significant character
  16. Pest resistant (Score)
  17. Disease resistant (Score)
  18. Plant no at the time of harvesting
  19. Yield from harvested area (g)

9.1    Planting date
The date shall record of planting to experiment.

9.2    50% germination day
The date shall record to the 50% germinated plant from internal 4 rows of small plot.

9.3    50 % flowering day
The date shall record from seedling day to 50 % flowering day of internal 4 rows.

9.4    Flower color
The time of 50% flowering shall record and can be seen various color.

9.5    Ripening day
The date shall record from seedling day to pods are ripening from 50% plant of internal 4 rows.

9.6    Plant height (cm)
At the ripening time of pods, plant height shall be record from plant base to leaf tip for 10 sample plants from internal 4 rows.

9.7    No of branch per plant
The record shall be started at the first harvesting time for 10 random plants from internal 4 rows. Average pods per plant can be got by record of branch which have at least a sound pods from each plant.

9.8    No of pod per plant
Record to every harvest time for 10 random plants from internal 4 rows. After first time record, the record plant must be label to plant.

9.9    Pod color
Record to the time of pods are drying and can be seen various color.

9.10    Pod length (cm)
Pod length shall measure to the 10 random pods from 10 sample plants and record to average length from 10 pods.

9.11    No of seeds per pod
Count the number of seed from 10 random pods of 10 sample plants and must be recorded with average number.

9.12    100 seed weight
The seed weight shall be measured when the moisture is 8-13 %. The 100 seed is gotten from 10 sample plants.

9.13    Seed color
The seed color shall be measured when the moisture is 8-13 % and can be seen various color.

9.14    Seed type
Various seed type can be seen.

9.15    Significant character
Significant character of testing variety such as early mature variety, disease resistant, etc...

9.16    Pest resistant (score)
Pest resistant shall be record from tinning time to ripening time.
Score (1) Resistant
Score (2) Tolerance
Score (3) Moderate
Score (4) Moderately susceptible
Score (5) Susceptible

9.17    Disease resistant (score)
Disease resistant shall be record from tinning time to ripening time.
Score (1) Resistant
Score (2) Tolerance
Score (3) Moderate
Score (4) Moderately susceptible
Score (5) Susceptible

9.18    Harvested plant
The harvested area that is internal 4 rows and leave two borders 1 ft for each rows harvested to every harvesting time. All plant must be count in the harvested area.

9.19    Yield from harvested area (g)
The yield from harvested area shall be measured when the moisture is 8-13 %.

10.    Calculating yield
Calculated the yield from the harvested area.
Yield (bsk) = yield from sample area (g) x 473560
                   Sample size (13 ft x 6 ft) x 454 x 72
454 = gram in a pound
72 = black gram weight in a basket (lb)
